Catching Up with… Rasmus Faber

Who Are You?

Well, my background is that of a musician, a jazz pianist, arranger, and composer. I am still those things, however I am now combining them with producing and djing for the past years. Been doing house music with a latin/soul feel to it for the last 5 years or so. I just turned 28, so not so young anymore 😉

What have You done?

I guess I’ve done a few tracks and remixes that people enjoy, hopefully, such as Ever After, Get Over Here, Never Felt So Fly, Divided/United, Come With Me, and my newest one, Demanda. On the remix front I’ve been remixing Miguel Migs, Jay-J, Junior Jack, Reel People, and more..

Still striving to write the perfect song, and to renew myself. I care a lot about not stagnating, and I hope people will follow my musical paths, as that is what keeps me going really.
I’ve run Farplane Records now for a couple of years, and see a lot of fun stuff on the label side now, even though I am very much putting my focus on creating new music.

Where Are You Going?

I think I’m not alone in saying the last few years has been a bit confusing in the house scene, and a lot of producers, including myself, has struggled to redfine themself in the new times. Something that I reckon to be quite scary but also very healthy. For me the last few years of djing has given me a new perspective on things, as well as letting me indulge even more in the musical/organic side when I’m not touring. You might say the future for me is divided into 2 parts. One being sort of a newfound love for house music, with some projects with new sounds and styles on the way, daring to take things to a bit more dancefloor friendly space. On the other hand, I am working on my first artist album, which will not be house at all. It will not even be the “house album- spinoffs” such as soul, funk or acid jazz, but rather something towards the orchestral side, with some latin and country music influences. Sounds confusing to you? To me too! 😉

Catching up with… Kai Martin

Who Are You?

I am Kai Martin – a lover of music and people. I have been singing and enjoying music since I was a little girl. My influences include my parents, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, Bill Withers, Roberta Flack, George Benson and Luther Vandross. I love music sung with depth and true emotion. My first love is soul and R&B music, but I’m happy to have found dance/house! I have a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master’s degree in Social Work. I enjoy helping others, particularly children and families. I also support women during labor and birth as a doula. It is important to make a difference in the world!

What Have You Done?

I sang on a track called ‘Fallin’ with a Danish group called Filur in 2002, and it went to #3 on the dance chart in Denmark then. From there I recorded the lovely Affirmation album with Solu Music in NY. Singles include ‘This Time,’ ‘It Ain’t Love,’ ‘Can’t Help Myself’ and ‘I Feel.’ I connected with Chris Brann (Ananda Project, Wamdue Music) in Atlanta last year, and am a featured vocalist on 2 tracks on Ananda Project’s new Fire Flower album: ‘Universal Love’ and ‘Stay As You Are.’ Heather Johnson and Terrance Downs are featured too. The ‘You Are My Star Mix’ of ‘Stay As You Are’ is on the Chocolate Soul III Compilation CD with such great artists as Raheem Devaughn, Anthony David, Rebirth and Kindred The Family Soul.

Where Are You Going?

I have been writing quite a bit and have been collaborating with various producers. I am working on a solo album now, combining dance, R&B, jazz and even some latin music. Look out for some singles later this year! I’m open to all kinds of collaborations as well.

Catching up with… Tracey K

Who Are You?

I’m Tracey K.

I’m from Ireland and I write songs and I sing them. Mostly House music.

I walk fast and I eat slow.

What Have You Done?

Been making music a couple of years now – mostly with Fish Go Deep [producers based in Cork, Ireland].

I’d be most known for singing/writing The Cure and the Cause [again with Fish Go Deep], which Dennis Ferrer remixed – that came out on Defected last year. Also released a little gem called ‘Nights Like These’ on Inspirit a few years back, then an album with Fish Go Deep called Lil’ Hand in 2005 – although we only pressed up a couple of 100 copies of that. That album was kinda half housey, half…something other.

Where Are You Going?

Well, at the moment I’m cultivating creativity as I’m writing a new album with Fish Go Deep – that will come out on Defected later this year. The next single off the album will probably be a song called ‘Battery Man’ but I don’t have a release date for that yet sorry. I’d love if it was out for the summer but here we are and it’s June already! As well as my work with Fish Go Deep im collaborating with King Britt on a project called Angels, and I have another few projects coming up which I cant talk about just yet. As well as that I’ll be working on a live show for next year – cannot wait. After that..who knows.
